The PADI advanced open water course taught at Diving Sports Canada in Vancouver will take you through 5 adventure dives to introduce new skills and knowledge to you to increase your ability to explore the underwater world.

Who is this course for:

After finishing the Open Water course, a lot of divers want to know what is next for them. The next logical step if you are interested in expanding your skillset and diving limits is the Advanced course. We always say that you do not have to “be advanced” to take the course; the Advanced course is designed to take you to the next level and help you become an advanced diver. Once you have done a few dives following your Open Water course, or if have been diving for years, and you have a good mastery of the basic skills then the Advanced course may be the next step for you.

(Junior) Open Water Divers who are at least 12 years old are ready to step up and enroll in a Junior Advanced Open Water Diver course. Young divers may only participate in certain Adventures Dives and have different training limits – please check with us on these details. Students who complete the Advanced certification course will be able to dive to a depth of 100ft (30m).

What You Will Learn:

Over the course of your training, you will complete five dives total. Two of those dives are mandatory and they are the Deep Dive and Navigation dive. You are going to learn how to safely dive to depths as deep as 30m/100ft and how to more effectively use a compass underwater as well as some natural navigation techniques. The other three dives will be chosen by the instructor out of a list of optional specialty/adventure dives. These will depend on student experience, site, and site conditions etc..

Course Description:

  • You will receive an eLearning code for the knowledge development portion of the course to be reviewed before your ocean dives.
  • You will spend a full weekend diving (Saturday and Sunday) and one evening during the week to complete your training
  • Day 1 will have 2 dives
  • Day 2 will have 2 dives, including the Deep dive
  • Day 3 we will complete your training with a graduation night dive during the week!

  • Course Prerequisites:

  • Open Water Diver required
  • Drysuit Specialty Certification (if you want to use a drysuit)
  • Recent cold water or drysuit experience required (in-pool assessment by instructor may be required)
  • We are doing our part to try and reduce plastic use, so all of our certifications will be digital. If students would prefer a physical certification card, then they may pay to have one at the time of certification.

    Commitment to Safety and Enjoyment

At Diving Sports we believe in making sure all our students receive the highest quality instruction and customer service. We are in the business of training, mentoring, and supporting students to become safe, skillful and confident divers. We begin by scheduling our courses with the number of classes it typically takes most students to master the knowledge and skills, then adapt and tailor our schedule to fit our individual student’s needs. Our instructors are open and honest about your progress during each part of the course. Students may need to schedule additional pool or ocean training dives prior to certification. This ensures our students complete their courses with all the skills and knowledge they need to be safe and enjoy their future dives and courses. When you take a course with Diving Sports, you are welcomed into a passionate and inclusive community of divers eager to support your diving journey well beyond the duration of your class.
