Why Choose Diving Sports Canada for Advanced Training?
At Diving Sports we believe in making sure all our students receive the highest quality instruction and customer service. We are in the business of training, mentoring, and supporting people to become safe, skillful and confident divers and in doing so, we know we are certifying divers who are able to continue to enjoy the sport incident free for many years.
We also believe in supporting those in the industry who make it as great as it is. We find that the common course structure of shortening class times to lower cost doesn’t benefit our students or our staff. We are changing how we do things to give students the time to excel in all the areas in diving so they can be proud about achieving their certification. This does mean that training will take longer and cost a little bit more than what some other dive companies may be offering. Our instructional staff have decades of experience between them and when you take dive training with us, you will be able to benefit from all that experience. We believe that the way we structure our courses has the most benefit to our students to set them up for continued success in diving.
We begin by scheduling our courses with the number of classes it typically takes most students to master the knowledge and skills, not simply the minimum recommended training hours set by the agencies. Our instructors are open and honest about your progress during each part of the course. Students may need to schedule additional pool or ocean training dives prior to certification. While not very common, occasionally some students require additional support outside of regularly scheduled classes, as many divers take more time on certain skills than others. This ensures our students complete their courses with all the skills and knowledge they need to be safe and enjoy their future dives and courses. When you take a course with Diving Sports, you are welcomed into a passionate and inclusive community of divers eager to support your diving journey well beyond the duration of your class. We do offer private scuba diving lessons in Vancouver for those needing more one-on-one time with their instructor and a custom scuba training plan.

Advanced Diver Course – FAQs
What are the experience requirements to participate?
To participate in the Advanced Adventure Diver course we usually recommend divers have at least 4 cold water dives (outside of the Open Water Course) and the same number of drysuit dives if using a drysuit.
What is the difference between the SDI Advanced and PADI Advanced Diver courses?
The PADI Advanced Diver and SDI Advanced Adventure Diver courses are essentially the same. You will complete a minimum of 5 “Adventure Dives” to expand your dive experience, allowing you to dive to a maximum depth of 30m/100ft. The SDI Advanced Diver is an earned certification after meeting all the requirements listed here.
What is the benefit of the Advanced Diver course if I never plan on diving deeper than 18m/60ft?
You will gain a larger knowledge base and experience new types of diving like night diving, navigation, or search and recovery. Many dive sites around the world require an Advanced certification due to conditions that may be too challenging for newer divers.
Why should I aim to get my SDI Advanced Diver rating or PADI Master Scuba Diver rating?
Both ratings signify that you are an experienced diver with a broad knowledge base, well-prepared for a variety of dive environments, and have earned an Advanced certification.
What is the SDI Advanced Diver Certification?
The SDI Advanced Diver Certification is earned after completing at least 25 logged dives and 4 SDI, TDI, ERDI, or equivalent specialty courses. SDI believes a diver is truly “advanced” once this is achieved.
What are the dives included in the Advanced Adventure Diver course?
The two required dives are Underwater Navigation and Deep Diver. The other three typically include Advanced Buoyancy, Search and Recovery, and Night Diver.
Do I need my own equipment for the Advanced Adventure Diver Course?
No. All equipment (except mask, snorkel, and gloves) can be rented for your continuing education courses.
